Self-centered politics and internal divisions have caused Tamil political parties to fail in fulfilling their responsibilities to the people, the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) said on Friday, adding that it intends to step in and fill the resulting leadership vacuum.

TULF media spokesperson and national coordinator Sudhakaran made the remarks during a media briefing held in Vavuniya on the 14th. He said the party is working to provide renewed leadership to the Tamil community under the current political climate and acknowledged that the party had faced difficulties in the past.

Sudhakaran said the TULF is now moving forward with a renewed vision, particularly with the involvement of younger members. He noted that the Tamil community is currently facing serious challenges and lacks clear political leadership, adding that existing Tamil parties have not chosen the correct path toward achieving the people’s aspirations.

He further said that self-interest has increasingly dominated Tamil political parties, while concern for the public has diminished. According to him, these parties had been given sufficient opportunities, including in the years following the end of the civil war in 2009, but had failed to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

Sudhakaran expressed confidence that the TULF would be able to fill the existing political gap. He said that when the influence of the TULF declined in the past, the well-being of the Tamil community also weakened. He also recalled the contributions of veteran leaders, noting that Anandasangaree — who worked alongside Thanthai Selva and G.G. Ponnambalam — continues to play a key role in rebuilding the party and honoring the legacy of its pioneers.

He added that the experience of past leaders combined with present efforts would guide the Tamil community toward progress, and called on the public to place their trust in the party while encouraging young people to become actively involved. The media briefing was attended by TULF leader Anandasangaree, Vanni District leader Udhayan, party secretary Diva, and youth wing secretary Padmakanthan. The party also announced that its central committee meeting will be held on the 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at a residence in Vavuniya’s Vairavapuliyankulam area.
